Will I be induced because of my diabetes?!

0 votes

I've been speaking with doctors, who have told me that because I am a type 1 diabetic, I will not be allowed to give birth anytime AFTER my due date, and will probably be induced earlier than my due date. I'm not really happy about this - I'd rather wait until my body is ready to give birth than be forced to do it! I'm wondering why diabetics are forced to get induced - are there serious risks for the baby, just by me being a diabetic?!

I believe the main concern is the size of your baby. I was induced for both of my children (a long time ago) and it is not a horrid experience. It is not like you are going to go from 0 to 10 in a few hours. It is done in a gradual manner to allow your body to make the natural adjustments for a naturual delivery. Babies of Type 1 diabetics tend to gain weight rapidly at due date and that could cause the need for a C-section.

If you have trusted your OB/GYN team thus far, keep trusting them to know what should be done for your health and the health of your new baby.

Best wishes and Congratulations
