Uterine fibroids are not usually dangerous and have insignificant reports of fatality. However following could be the things that could happen if the size and position of fibroids interfere with the normal functioning of the uterus:

  1. Anemia - Since heavy and longer menstrual cycles are one of the traits of fibroids, Anemia is the most common complication caused.

  2. Issues with lower back - Be it bloating up of lower abdomen or a constant lower back pain, both could be caused by fibroids.

  3. Fertility issues - The presence of fibroids, depending on the positioning might hinder the meeting of sperm and egg. It might also change the position of fallopian tubes and the process of implantation.

  4. Pregnancy issues - During pregnancy, fibroids can interfere with the normal fetal and placental growth. It can also reduce the chances of normal delivery, there by increasing the chances of cesarean section. It can also cause miscarriage or premature delivery if not diagnosed at the right time.
