Meditation is an act of developing more awareness. It helps increase your concentration ability as well. Having said that, please don’t consider it as a daunting task. Everyday activities if done with awareness can also be meditative and can increase your alertness.
If you see Buddhist monks, they try to perform each action with alertness. Every gesture they make, every word they utter, anything for that matter is attempted with razor-sharp attentiveness. That’s meditation in action. You can try doing your daily chores such as washing dishes, cleaning, bathing, gardening etc with absolute attentiveness. That can help increase your awareness and also your concentration.
Alternatively, you can simply sit down and stare at a burning candle flame for like 10 min. That’s called ‘tratak’ in yoga science and that immensely helps in concentration. (A trained teacher’s assistance is recommended).
You can also focus your attention on OM or SriYantra for 5–10 minutes daily and it helps build concentration. OM chanting for 15 minutes daily also helps tremendously.
Whatever you do, make sure to stick to it for a period of time as you won't see results immediately. However, these are time tested methods and do work. So be patient.
