What feels right to you. Position only matters if you feel it does. Music in the background is helpful, also running water sounds and sounds of nature. Incense is helpful to many. Calm that promotes silence is helpful in untangling the emotions and thoughts that barrage our minds daily.
Your state of mind will change daily and so your emotions. Be prepared to accept and allow them or you will get discouraged easily. They are not bad, they are telling you about something unconscious.
Become the watcher of all things within and allow them to reveal their secrets to you. You will after time be able to notice a gap between them and your ability to watch them. This is the doorway to the knower within. The secret to meditation is to allow all things until they dissolve into the silence within us. This knower is felt and not thought.
