  1. Experiences in meditation may lead to increases in delusion if given spiritual or metaphysical import.
  2. Meditation could activate certain mental health or nervous energy syndromes as mentioned in Anil Wade's answer - mania, kundalini, whatever.
  3. Meditation may allow one to learn to stimulate parts of the mind or body that should not be over stimulated, but where stimulation can have an addictive quality. This stimulation could also lead to hypersensitivity which is not under direct conscious control and can't be easily reduced.
  4. Meditation may "work" to trigger genuine insight, which can lead to things like the dark night of the soul, spiritual emergency, etc.
  5. Meditation may "work" leading you to the conclusion that much of your current/past/future life is bull sh!t, possibly leading to significant life changes which may be wise or unwise.
  6. Meditation may teach one to mess around with things like hypnogogic imagery, which can take on a life of their own. Imagine you could turn on a highly detailed, somewhat deranged fantasy movie playing faces, scary characters, porn, odd places, animals, faces, etc. Perhaps it's interesting, but sometimes you may not be able to turn it off, nor avoid negative emotional reactions surprise, fear, etc.
  7. Meditation may induce certain experiences which the mind lusts after and wants to repeat.
  8. Meditation may hurt your knees, neck or back.
  9. Meditation may waste your time or make you late for work.
  10. Doing meditation in a way that is not sustainable may lead you to give up meditation. (baby out with the bath water)
