Zygote Intra Fallopian Transfer is one of the Artificial Reproductive Technologies similar to IVF, but instead of embryo ( 32 cell mass after the zygote begins dividing itself) as in case of IVF, here a Zygote (fertilized egg without division, having 46 chromosomes, 23 from each parent) is transferred into the fallopian tube. In case of IVF the embryo is transferred into the uterus rather than fallopian tubes.

Another major difference between ZIFT and IVF is that, ZIFT is an invasive laparoscopic procedure to place the zygote into the fallopian tube, while IVF simply involves inserting the catheter through the vagina to place the embryo in the uterus.
