Also, it is very common to see depression bring pain to the person who is suffering from depression and the person who is looking for the former. Eating a healthy diet

  • Have these through your main meals i.e. breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Stay away from coffee

  • Depression and coffee don’t go well as it results in a decrease of 5-HIA
  • Avoid having coffee at regular intervals, stick to 1-2 cups max.

Consume green tea

  • Drinking green tea results in L-theanine. This works in coordination with caffeine.
  • Reduces the negative consequences of bad moods. You should have green tea twice a day.
  • It can be consumed in both cold and hot forms to fight depression.

Chamomile tea

  • Chamomile tea is rich in certain flavonoids. It helps the depressed individual to relax and fall asleep easily.
  • A warm cup of chamomile should be taken right before bedtime.  

Consume more B-vitamins

  • B-vitamin rich diet includes helps in fighting off depression. Have at least one healthy portion of vitamin B-rich foods. These include cheese, spinach, fish, turkey, etc. 

Have a magnesium rich diet

  • A magnesium rich diet fights off signs of depression. Have a handful of cashew nut or almonds in the morning.
  • Alongside, cooked black beans about 1/2 cup can be consumed too. Eating a banana on empty stomach is suggested.



  • Any form of exercise be it yoga or cardiovascular helps release endorphins. This fights depression
  • Try to do at least half an hour of exercise everyday. It can be done indoors or outdoors to ease depression.

  • Add some grated ginger to a cup of boiling water and leave it for 5 minutes. Strain it and add little lemon juice and honey. Drink this mixture 2-3 times during menstruation.



  • Basil can effectively reduce menstrual stomach ache and cramps. It contains caffeic acid which has pain-killing properties.
  • Mix one tablespoon of basil leaves to a cup of boiling water. Close the container tightly and allow it to cool down. Strain it and drink several times in a day to ease your pain.
  • Another option is, crush some basil leaves and extract the juice. Add 2 teaspoons of basil juice to a cup of warm water. Drink it 3 times a day during menstruation.



  • Cinnamon has anti-inflammatory, anti-clotting, and antispasmodic properties that can ease menstrual stomach ache. It is also a rich source of iron, fibre, calcium, and manganese.
  • Add ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon powder to a cup of hot water. Let it settle for 5 minutes. Add little honey to this and drink it. Drink 2-3 cups of this mixture one or two days before your period starts.



  • Fennel's antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, and phytoestrogenic property relieves menstrual cramping.
  • Add one teaspoon of fennel seeds to a cup of boiling water. Strain it after five minutes, add honey and drink twice daily starting 2-3 days before the period start date.

  • Alternatively, add a teaspoon of cumin powder to a cup of boiling water. Leave it for 5 mins, strain and drink it twice a day.



  • Saffron acts as a sedative and helps get rid of sleeping disorder.
  • Add 2-3 strands of saffron to a cup of warm milk. Drink it before going to sleep.



  • Banana contains an amino acid known as tryptophan, it helps to raise serotonin level which in turn regulates the sleeping pattern. Banana also useful in inducing sleep and reduce tiredness as it contains potassium, calcium, and iron.

Warm milk

  • Add a teaspoon of cinnamon powder to a cup of warm milk. Drink it one hour before going to bed.




  • Nutmeg has a sedative property which helps to induce sleep naturally.
  • Add half a teaspoon of nutmeg to a cup of warm milk and drink it before going to sleep. You can also drink it with water or any fruit juice.
