What is anemia?

Anemia is a condition that develops when the blood lacks enough healthy Red Blood Cells (RBCs) or hemoglobin. Lack of hemoglobin directly maps to lack of oxygen, which affects the overall functioning of the organs. 

Causes

  1. Certain clinical effects, like bleeding from the intestine or gut, which could be due to injury or surgery
  2. Pregnancy
  3. Heavy menstrual periods
  4. Crohn’s disease (Inflammatory disorder of the digestive tract, causing diarrhea, bloody stools, weight loss etc)
  5. Thalassaemia (Inherited disease causing abnormal hemoglobin synthesis)
  6. Leukaemia ( Cancer of tissue which produces blood)
  7. Kidney failure
  8. Rheumatoid arthritis (Inflammatory disorder which affects joints)
  9. Hormonal imbalances
  10. Improper diet

Symptoms

  1. Feeling lethargic 
  2. Shortness of breath
  3. Becoming easily fatigued
  4. Pale appearance of skin
  5. Sleeplessness

Home Remedies 

 
Peaches 
 
They are the excellent source of iron and dietary fibers. Due to abundant iron content, peaches help in hemoglobin production and increase the number of RBCs, thus the risk of anemia is addressed.
 
Saffron 
 
2-3 strands of saffron in a glass of milk consumed daily can be effective in overcoming anemia.
 
Fennel seeds 
 
Packed with minerals and nutrients fennel seeds are useful in the quick production of RBCs, faster than any other medication. 3tbsp of  fennel seeds with 3 tbsp of rose petals should be boiled in two cups of water . This concoction should be cooled down, strained and consumed twice a day.
 
Lychees 
 
These are rich in folic acid and iron. Consuming 2-3 lychees per day will help treat anemia.

Apple Cider Vinegar - Being used for multiple purposes, this is also best utilized to overcome allergies. 

  • Simply mix a tsp of Apple Cider Vinegar in a glass of water and consume this every morning. This not just prevents the allergies from setting up, but also cleanses the lymph nodes, decreasing the mucus production.

 

Probiotics - Probiotics work wonders in maintaining a healthy digestive system and overall health. The gut bacteria of the mother impacts the immunity of the baby throughout. Thus, the major credit of the way your immunity works goes to your mother. If you are frequently prone to allergies include probiotics in your meal twice a day. 

  • Include a cup of yogurt in your meal. Flavored yogurt can also be opted if plain isn't much pleasing.
  • Supplements of probiotics in the form of capsules are also available.
  • Pickles are loaded with probiotics since they are preserved for a long time

 

Turmeric - One of the wonder spice, turmeric has a lot of benefits including allergy remedies. 

 

  • Add extra turmeric instead of normal amounts to the dishes.

Local honey - This is more effective than the processed honey.

What is Arthritis?

Types of Arthritis: 

Osteoarthritis

The most common type of arthritis, involves wear-and-tear damage to your joint's cartilage — the hard, slick coating on the ends of bones. This wear and tear can occur over many years, or it can speeden up by a joint injury or infection.

Rheumatoid arthritis

In Rheumatoid Arthritis, the body's immune system attacks the lining of the joint capsule, a layer that encloses all the joint parts. This lining, becomes inflamed and swollen. The disease process can eventually destroy cartilage and bone within the joint.

 

Causes 

 

  1. Injury (leading to osteoarthritis),
  2. Hereditary factors,
  3. Any direct and indirect effect of infections (bacterial and viral),
  4. An auto-immune disorder (Process where body's fighter cells, treat body's own cells as threat)

 

Symptoms

  1. Pain
  2. Stiffness
  3. Swelling
  4. Redness
  5. Decreased range of motion
  6. Fatigue
  7. Loss of energy
  8. Lack of appetite
  9. Low grade fever
  10. Chest pain while breathing in
  11. Dry eyes and mouth
  12. Burning and itching of the eye; and discharge from the eye
  13. Nodules beneath the skin
  14. Numbness, tingling or burning in the hands and feet
  15. Sleep disturbances

Home Remedies 

 

Turmeric - Due to it's anti-inflammatory properties turmeric comes as a boon to rheumatoid arthritis. 

  • Mix 1 tea spoon of turmeric is a glass of warm milk and drink it at night before going to bed. Make sure this is done on alternate days, as daily consumption might sometimes generate side effects like heat.
  • Drinking fresh turmeric juice is the most effective than in any other form
  • Consuming 500-1000 mg of turmeric capsule thrice per day is also an option.
 

Epsom salt - Due to high amounts of magnesium Epsom salt is used as a pain reliever. 

  • Add 1 cup of Epsom salt in a big bowl of water and soak the area of the body which is sored due to pain. 
  • Alternatively, you can take bath using this water if the area of pain is not convenient enough to soak.
 

Cinnamon - It is enriched with anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties, thus acts as a pain reliever

  • 1/2 tsp of Cinnamon mixed in 1 tsp of honey should be added to one glass of warm water. Drink this every morning with an empty stomach.

 

Extra virgin olive oil - Lubrication is an important aspect to be taken care of when arthritis is diagnosed. Extra virgin olive oil acts as an excellent lubricant.

  • 2-3 tablespoon of oil can be massaged on the sore joints 2-3 times a day. Make sure the pressure applied during massage is gentle.

Breast cancer starts when cells in the breast begin to grow out of control. These cells further accumulate to form a tumor that can be seen on an x-ray or felt as a lump. If the tumor grows and spreads around the surrounding tissues the tumor is called malignant tumor. Most of the cases of breast cancer are reported in women, while in the rare cases very small percentage of men also are a victim of it.

Causes

The exact and precise cause of breast cancer is not known, however, some studies relate it to - Genetics : A family history of breast cancer, obesity, alcohol consumption, radiation, etc.

Symptoms 

  1. A lump in a breast is one of the primary symptoms of breast cancer
  2. A pain in the armpits or breast that does not seem to be related to the woman's menstrual period. Swelling in some cases. 
  3. Pitting or redness of the skin of the breast; like the skin of an orange. Sometimes thickening of a part of tissues of the breast.
  4. A rash around (or on) one of the nipples
  5. Discharge from nipples, sometimes the discharge might be blood
  6. The nipple changes in appearance; it may become sunken or inverted, peeling of the skin.
  7. Change in the size and shape of the breast
     

Home Remedies

Garlic

  • Known for its high antibiotic properties, garlic can contain the spread of cancerous cells.
  • You can swallow 2-3 cloves of garlic on empty stomach in the morning
  • Add more raw garlic to your diet in forms of salads
  • Additionally, you can also mix 1 spoon of garlic paste with a spoon of honey. Consume this every day.

 

Broccoli 

 

  • Raw broccoli can be washed and blanched. Mix it with some apple cider vinegar, garlic and lemon juice and zest. Eat one bowl twice a day.
  • Broccoli soup can be made, using the stem. Boil in a pressure cooker or steamer. The stem has crucial nutrients that fight free radicals.

 

Turmeric

Both raw and fresh forms of turmeric aid in fighting breast cancer. 

  • Take a thick 2-inch piece of fresh turmeric. Puree it and mix with 2 spoons of lemon juice. Have on empty stomach 
  • Puree a thick 2-inch piece of fresh turmeric with some beetroot, carrots and tomatoes. All ingredients are antioxidant rich.
  • You can increase your intake of dry turmeric in foods to prevent breast cancer
  • 1 cup of warm milk, mixed with a spoon of honey and turmeric can be taken too

 

Tomatoes

A study by Endocrine Society’s Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism indicates tomatoes reduce risks of breast cancer as they contain Lycopene. 

  • Slice a tomato and have it with your meals. Add garlic to the salad for added benefits.
  • You can also squeeze the juice of 2 tomatoes and drink everyday

Home Remedies 

 

1. Aloe Vera - Because of it's antimicrobial and anti inflammatory properties, Aloe Vera is used to not just get rid of acne but also to remove scars. 

  • To get rid of acne - Mix 2 tbsp of aloe vera gel extracted from the leaf, 1 tbsp of honey and 1 tsp of turmeric and blend it well to form a paste. Apply this for 20 mins and wash with warm water. Use this twice a week to get rid of all the inflammation and redness of acne
  • To remove the scars - Mix 2 tbsp of tomato juice with 1 tbsp of aloe vera gel to form a smooth paste. Dip a cotton ball into it and gently dab the skin with the cotton ball. Leave it for 15 minutes and wash the face with warm water.

 

2. Green Tea - 

  • Boil 2 cups of water and place 2 green tea bags in it for 15-20 minutes. Add a teaspoon of honey to it. This concoction cleanses the body and skin inside out. 
  • To wash the face with green tea, boil 2 bowls of water along with 2 tbsp of green tea leaves an allow it to cool. Splash this 2-3 times to get an instant relief from acne inflammation and redness.

 

3. Apple Cider Vinegar -

  • To get rid of acne - Mix 2 tbsp of ACV, 1 tbsp lemon juice, 1 tsp honey in a glass of water and drink it before meals. 
  • To cleanse skin and avoid dirt - 2 tbsp ACV in 1/4th cup of water , dip a cotton ball into it and apply it on face. Wash after 15 minutes.
