Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a problem of hormone imbalance. It causes fertility problem for women and makes it difficult to conceive.   • Elevated levels of androgens (male hormones) may result in some physical indications such as facial/body hair, acne, etc.
  • You may also experience fatigue and mood changes.
  • Weight gain is also a sign of PCOS.
  • You may have pelvic pain, headache due to hormonal changes.

 

Causes

 

  • High levels of male hormones (androgens) cause PCOS.
  • Excess insulin also affects the ovaries and interfere with the ovulation process. Insulin is a hormone generated in the pancreas that makes cells to utilize glucose.
  • Low-grade inflammation; inflammation is a substance which fights against infections. Women with PCOS will have low-grade inflammation and this will make ovaries to produce excess androgens.
  • Heredity; your chances of getting PCOS is high if your mother/sister has it.
